It is essential to your understanding of mathematics at this level that you learn how to use mathematical symbols and notation precisely. Written mathematics is a language with rules and conventions just like any other language. If you do not use it correctly then other people (most importantly examiners) will not understand what you mean.
The following notation will be used in all mathematics examinations.
